If you’ve built a lens today you may have noticed that the module picker has gotten a bit of a facelift. Although this makes a portion of one of my Squidoo Training Videos obsolete, I still think it’s for the best.
One of the modules listed on the default ’starter package’ tab is called Yelp. It has no description but it is one of the latest creations of Fluffanutta, founder of SquidUtils.
What this module does is return a list of reviews about various retail stores and shops by zip code.
Why this module could be cool
Since the results are returned by Squidoo when the page loads, all of the reviews are indexable by search engines. This is another module that falls under the Evergreen Content type we’ve talked about before.
If you create a lens based on a place, or on a retail store of some kind, this one is a must have.

Ok, I’ve got another site that my fellow barnacles can use to promote your lenses almost effortlessly to targeted readers. (I know, that’s why they call me the Captain).
The name of the site is called Wis.dm and it is similar in design to Yahoo Answers, but here’s where the awesomeness comes in:
- You ask a simple Yes/No question and other readers respond. No complicated ‘open-ended’ questions
- This question can have a link attached to it.
- There is a bookmark button tool on Wisdm that allows you to drag it up to your bookmark bar. Every time you click the button while on one of your lenses, you are automatically taken to the question creation page. Ask a simple yes no question (do you think Bon Jovi is cool? for a Bon Jovi lens for example).
- You can search for questions relating to your lenses and simply add your link as a comment.
- Links in Wisdm do NOT have the ‘no-follow’ tag. That means they are quality, one-way backlinks to your lens. Search engines love this. Oh yea, the wisdm homepage has a PR of 6…yummy!
I’m signed up over at wisdm as Captain Squid. If you give it a shot, make sure and become my friend so I can go through and vote on your questions and visit your lenses!
Arrrrrrrr- Easy bookmarking for targeted backlinks… I love it.

P.S. Let me know what you all think of the new logo!
I’ve been perfecting a few simple training videos over the past few weeks to help people get started with Squidoo. I’m proud to announce the first installment of Squidoo Lensbuilding 101.
Lensbuilding 101 is a 7-part series that walks you through setting up a lens from start to finish. Most of the information is pretty basic, but there are a few little tidbits in there that I think most Squidoo users will be able to use.
The 7 videos combined are approximately an hour of free training on Squidoo. Not too shabby if I do say so myself.
The best part? It’s completely free. No Sign-ups, payment, subscriptions, etc. The basic Squidoo Lensbuilding 101 series is 100% free.
To Check it out in all of it’s glory, head over to the Training page.
Let me know what you think and what you would like the next video to be on!
