If you are new here, you might want to get free updates and squidoo tricks delivered straight to you via RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
The light posting for the last week hasn’t gone by without something getting done. I’ve developed a custom blogging platform for Squidoo Lensmasters!
I’m Proud to introduce SquidTop!
What is SquidTop?
Squidtop is a site that allows you to create your own blog to talk about your squidoo lenses, accomplishments, progress, or any other topic you desire. What’s unique about it is a custom interface that allows you to update your blog with short little posts like twitter/pownce updates like so:

There is also a fully featured back-end built on wordpress, allowing you to create in depth posts about whatever you would like!
Other Cool Features
Twitter Integration - Simply add your Twitter RSS feed to the ‘Options’ page in your admin area to display a list of your recent twitter posts.
Adsense Revenue Sharing - I designed a custom adsense revenue integration into the site. Your blogs receive 80% of the impressions while Squidtop receives the other 20% to cover hosting, maintentance, etc. To activate it, go to your options page and insert your google publisher ID and your ad_slot number so google can track it. That’s it! you’re all set up.
Recent News - The front page of Squidtop shows the most recent posts made on the site by any blogger. This means that when you post updates, you are visible front and center for all the Squidtop vistors to see!
How to Sign up for Squidtop
Just head over to www.Squidtop.com and click on the big blue sign-up button. The whole process takes less than 5 minutes before you can have your very own blog to talk about your lenses on!
What are you waiting for? Give it a try!
Let me know what you folks think and if there are any obvious improvements that you would like to see in the site.

Squidblogging sounds like logs of fun and learning how to blog in the safety of Squidville will make it all the sweeter.

This is really cool! Will we be able to modify/personalize the look in any way?
May 10th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
Damon,
Right now the adsense can be changed to your personal preference of colors, etc.
I’ve started out with a base theme to see what works and what doesn’t but I’m planning on opening up some new features as we move along.
Glad you like it!

Hi Captain!
I just posted my 1st blog. Great idea!
You posted- Adsense Revenue Sharing-”To activate it, go to your options page and insert your Google publisher ID and your ad_slot number so Google can track it.”
How do I get a Google publisher ID and ad_slot number?
Will we be able to use other Wordpress Themes?
Thanks,
Kelly Wissink

I think that this could be very powerful, not only for promoting new lenses but also for networking and meeting new lensmasters! After all, isn’t that what makes Squidoo so fun?
May 12th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
Kelly,
when you go into your adsense account at google and generate code (do it for a 468X60 ad block) it will give you those numbers in the code. Just copy/paste and save and you are all set!

What a great idea. I’ve been wondering what blogging platform to use to promote my lenses, and it makes sense to use one that other squidoo lensmasters are using.

How long does it take to receive the confirmation email? It’s been a couple hours since I registered but haven’t received it. I triple checked my email and checked my spam box.
May 29th, 2008 at 6:31 am
Moe, it should have come in about 15 seconds (it’s usually quite fast). Once in a rare while the e-mails aren’t going through and I can’t find a common thread to figure out why.
If you want to e-mail me or comment here with the name of the blog and your e-mail address, I can set it up for you in a jiffy.
my e-mail is captain *nospam* at *** captainsquid.com

I tried emailing you but perhaps I skewed the email.
The name of the blog is biggirlblue (biggirlblue.squidtop.com).
The email is the same as the one posted with this message.
Thanks!

So the blog is showing up today - http://biggirlblue.squidtop.com
I tried requesting a password twice (since I don’t have one). I get a confirmation message which I responded to and received - Check your e-mail for your new password…but no password has arrived. I’m assuming it happens pretty quickly.
