Getting outranked by another lens?
Here’s a little trick for you.
If you can’t figure out why you can’t get any search traffic from google on your lens go to the SquidUtils lens Search (powered by Google) and put in the keyword you are trying to rank for. The search only searches lenses (or groups) on squidoo instead of the entire web.
If you aren’t #1 or #2 on squidoo for a keyword how likely do you think you are to be chosen by google to represent that keyword from squidoo to all the other sites on the web?
all hope is not lost and you can certainly climb the ranks within squidoo quite quickly with some good content and attention. Just keep in mind that if you are getting ready to build a lens about ‘The Secret’ … don’t. It’s been done, I promise.
Get a new spin on things, there’s huge amounts of traffic out there to snag, I promise.

What an EXCELLENT point. I just did a few searches and sure enough, the lenses I have that are getting traffic are coming up #1 in the squidutils search. The lenses I’m not getting much traffic for are no where to be found.
Excellent point. I have never really gone after lensrank, but if you aren’t coming up in a search of Squidoo then it would be odd if you came up in Google.
Thanks for another tool to use to get my lenses ranking!

Great point. It surprises me sometimes the lenses that get good traffic. Frequently it is to a keyword I hadn’t emphasized intentionally when I wrote the lens. As I re-write to use that word or phrase more directly – ratings and traffic both increase.

Captain — thanks for the tip! Great to have such a handy little tool from thefluffanutta on squidutils.com. Are there recommendations for more appropriate keywords to use too?
I would like a tool to tell about duplicate content issues; i.e., your lens might have had a decent PR and then it loses it when a website posts your content from your lens. I had that happen on one of my high-ranking lenses; I contacted the website administrator who removed it.

Hey Captain, Another bullseye. I hadn’t thought about Squidoo ranking, just Google. It gives us an easier target to aim for and that is always good!

Julie, I think that duplicate content stuff is ridiculous, a joke if you will. The reason is, you want others to spread your message how can that happen if they don’t quote you? Google wants a few word changes, which is plagarism instead? Why call it a web if google isn’t going to treat it like a web? It makes no sense.
Google could check the publish date of the content to see if yours was first, first becoming the original for pagerank purposes. I think any other system is just plain arbitrary.
The only thing I don’t know is if there is enough computer power in the world to keep that sort of record, lol.
