Going Local with Squidoo Lenses
One of the most under-rated uses for Squidoo that ironically has the most utility is using Squidoo to create lenses (webpages) targeted at specific local venues.
Are you trying to make a living with Squidoo? one of the most effective business models you can pursue is to go around town and build lenses for local businesses.
When done properly, you can have lenses about {Small Town Name} Pizza or Dentist or Tanning Salon shoot straight to the top of the results. That kind of targeting has very real, very HUGE value to small businesses and frankly, they are willing to pay for it once they see the results.
But before you can get there, you have to know how to build local lenses that are going to rank AND convert. And that’s what I’m here to help you do over the next week or so.

I never thought of using Squidoo for local traffic. I can see how targeting local traffic can be effective on Squidoo. Just another opportunity on a great website.

My small hometown of Pendleton SC is my niche on Squidoo and Squidoo has been the perfect place to promote businesses, events, and the town in general. I’m looking forward to following your post and learning more on how to build local lenses.

Preach it brotha!
We use the local stuff all the time. In fact, one of your lens ranks for a localized term. Search, “castle rock colorado housing market.” We’ve done the same. Search “creekstone kennewick homes for sale.”
Nice post Joe!

I definitely agree. I asked a supplier of beauty products had he ever used affiliates. He has a web site but no one driving traffic to it. He was very interested and I’m now designing a squidoo page for him. My question is, how should I present it to him. We have not talked payment or anything. Should I show him how the site drives traffic or what?

I have always been a big fan of this business plan, and have done it successfully, not with Squidoo though. I honestly believe it is the most unsaturated and realistic online income ideas for beginners and advanced marketers.
Squdioo is again an ideal place to start, but I wouldn’t stop there. Make a Squidoo lens for a term like “Dentist in Yourtown” . Get it ranking on the front page and then you can approach all the local dentists with some top quality advertising space to sell. When you think how much a client to a dentist is worth, you can get an idea on how much you could sell that space for, even if your lens only gets a few hits a week. Then sell them a domain, and charge for monthly seo
I might write a post on local marketing over at my blog shortly.
