Sneaky Squidoo Promotional Tool - Do you have the Wisdom?

Arr... This Be The Captain! Thanks for Stopping by to check out my piratey bag of Squidoo Tricks! If you are new here, you might want to get free updates and squidoo tricks delivered straight to you via RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Ok, I’ve got another site that my fellow barnacles can use to promote your lenses almost effortlessly to targeted readers. (I know, that’s why they call me the Captain).

The name of the site is called Wis.dm and it is similar in design to Yahoo Answers, but here’s where the awesomeness comes in:

  1. You ask a simple Yes/No question and other readers respond. No complicated ‘open-ended’ questions
  2. This question can have a link attached to it.
  3. There is a bookmark button tool on Wisdm that allows you to drag it up to your bookmark bar. Every time you click the button while on one of your lenses, you are automatically taken to the question creation page. Ask a simple yes no question (do you think Bon Jovi is cool? for a Bon Jovi lens for example).
  4. You can search for questions relating to your lenses and simply add your link as a comment.
  5. Links in Wisdm do NOT have the ‘no-follow’ tag. That means they are quality, one-way backlinks to your lens. Search engines love this. Oh yea, the wisdm homepage has a PR of 6…yummy!

I’m signed up over at wisdm as Captain Squid. If you give it a shot, make sure and become my friend so I can go through and vote on your questions and visit your lenses!

Arrrrrrrr- Easy bookmarking for targeted backlinks… I love it.

P.S. Let me know what you all think of the new logo!

I’m obviously not built for this promotional game - after reading through the questions on their front page I felt an urgent need to close the window! Thanks for pointing out the site but I’ll pass on this one.

trevor,

I understand, I’m just trying to point out there are tons and tons of way to promote your lenses. When I come across a way that involves ‘thinking outside the box’ a little bit I usually share it to get people thinking.

Obviously, some of these sites will not be for everyone and I sincerely appreciate your honest feedback on it.

If a trick stinks, let me know!

Hi Lewis,
Thanks for the great tip on this one. I went out and took a look around. I can see that with this one you pick and choose, or post your own topics and let others chime in. I did not see where one would place a one way link back to ones lenses, but I just took a quick look around, joined, and bookmarked it.

This one definitely is worth the time to study it and make it work the way you suggest one should.

Thanks again,
-Donna

Donna,

Actually, I’m not Lewis :) I’m Joe/Loyalis/The Captain. However, I’m glad you’re giving it a try! Let me know if you run into any problems!

-Joe(not lewis :) )

Hi, I checked out wis.dom too and at first felt the same as Trevor, I find all the question and answer sites need to be heavily censored. But I did sign up and found some decent questions to answer with a link to my squidoo lenses that were relevant. I posted a question with a link to the relevant lens, which got 3 answers pretty quick. I also made you a friend :) Thanks Jan (allbright) Glad you keep on top of new ways to promote lenses!

Nice tip Joe! I need to get over there and start asking some questions, and providing some answers. Keep up the good work!

Great tips on offer here I shall mosey on over and take a look. Thanks for the Info

neato, just joined and added you as a friend :)

another thing… you can add html to your answers…
I just added a link to my website using an anchor tag (did I say that right?)

More nifty tricks from the Captain! Must check that out.

Thanks Capt.
I joined, now I have to figure out how to use it!

Joined, and added you as friend.

Thanks for suggesting.

Joined also and added you as a friend but it does not show up anywhere. Guess I need to figure more out

Here is my URL if anyone wants to add me as a friend. http://wis.dm/users/47861-djnuttall

Thanks for the info on this site. Will see if it gives any backlinks.

This seems like a really cool idea. I’m heading over there now to check it out!

The thing that I don’t like about this site is that the questions can be answered without even opening them up, so links aren’t likely to be seen, but I suppose there is a benefit to having the link “out there” for the google bots.

I’ll have to try the commenting, though. I’ll come back to post if I notice any traffic.

And here is my profile, if anyone wishes to add me to their friends list! I’ve already added Denise! :-)

I just joined. I answered a few questions and left a link or two.

No sure how to add friends.

I joined.

answered some questions and left some links.

How do I add a friend or make a friend?

Hi Joe,
So sorry for getting all confused, my apologies. I will try to keep it straight from now on. Anyway I cant figure how to get to become your friend on Wis.dom or you mine? Can you help me out with this one?

Thanks

Just joined, finally. I’m lewister if anyone wants to add me as a friend. (quick instructions on how to do that, since it’s been asked - go to people, enter the person’s name in the search box on the left and click search. When you find the right person, just to the right of their picture, you’ll see Actions. Click the drop down button and click add friend. Easy!) See how good I am at answering questions already!! :-) If you’ve listed your name, I’ve already added you to my friends as well.

Hi Captain Squid
I’ve managed to add the html of a question I asked on to a Vote Links Module on website, as part of a games section. Not perfect and not bad, it works and that’s cool with me, keeping an old question alive (hopefully). I’m still a novice at this.
The link takes the viewer to only my question back on wis.dm, and it is their choice to vote yes/no, or look around, or return to my lens and browse further. This way I get 2 way links ;-)… I think!
Thanx for input.
Lisa

Aha me hearty!

Grrrrrreat tip, shiver me timbers!

I love this suggestion and have registered at wis.dm. I have also found that yedda.com is similar to wis.dm. Links in Yedda do NOT have the ‘no-follow’ tag.

How I love forums for the great feedback. I only wish there was enough time to go through them all to extract the great kernals of information there. I will try these out.
Regards
Ron

Just found out about this today through Squidu.
If you want to add me as a friend…

Cap’n Squid — what a great idea! I’ve joined & befriended ya and posted 1 Bit so far. Thanks for the heads up . . .

Thank you for the tips

Please stop spamming wis.dm with your crap! We don’t want it.

Thanks!! Really thank you! I use wis.dm a lot and I wanted to thank you for all the obnoxious spam questions, it makes my day. However I want you ALL to know that no one is going to be clicking on your links, we might answer your questions if we are bored enough, but we will never click on your links.
So to anyone thinking about trying this, there are much better things to do with your time. =)

While this is probably a good method of disseminating your squidoo lenses, the practice of using wis.dm for self-promotion , especially without getting familiar & contributing to the quality of discussion there is not appreciated much by the members of the community there, and seems to violate the rules of conduct. If you absolutely must do this, please be respectful of the people and atmosphere and use moderation. Thanks for your respect and consideration (-:

Res,

Thanks for the constructive comment, I agree wholeheartedly. As with all the tips, advice, I give, I ALWAYS recommend being a part of the community instead of just ‘driving-by’.

I responded to some of the concerns that have been voiced on this wis.dm bit as well.

Thanks Captain!

What a great site!

Kelly Wissink

Great article. I signed up on wis.dm and added you as a friend. I’m chucknp on squidoo and wis.dm and will reciprocate if anyone wants to add me. Thanks!
Chuck
