Squidoo + Freedom = Awesome
7 years ago today, I was sitting in a chemistry class at 8am in the morning with some of my friends at Tulane University. Several of them were from New York. The teacher walked in and made some kind of announcement about how ‘classes were suspended today’ and we were all very confused..until we saw a TV.
3 years ago this month, a gigantic hurricane struck a glancing blow to New Orleans, a city I’d lived in for 4 years and come to love.
As I write this another potentially giant hurricane is barreling towards Houston, my current home.
While disasters, both manmade and natural, will continue to occur in the future, the nature of our society (free, democratic governments) also has new opportunities growing out of the old.
Take a minute today to remember the people who work hard in disaster areas both before and after tragedy strikes. If you get stuck in traffic today, I promise you that it’s better than the traffic 1 million people evacuating through Houston’s 4 million people are experiencing today so take a deep breath and calm down.
Maybe make a lens or two.
I don’t know what the power situation will be like in the next couple of days but as long as it holds out I will probably be hanging out in the chat room.

Very true Captain. Sometimes we get so busy that we forget how fortunate we are.
