Squidoo Ramps up Community Involvement

Arr... This Be The Captain! Thanks for Stopping by to check out my piratey bag of Squidoo Tricks! If you are new here, you might want to get free updates and squidoo tricks delivered straight to you via RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Maybe it’s just because I finally have had power back after losing it to Mr. Hurricane Ike for two weeks but it seems that the team over at Squidoo has really ramped up a ton of new community initiatives in the past few weeks. Between giving $80,000 to charity, the latest round of Giant Squid entries, and the new call put out for more Giant Squid Greeters to join the ranks, it’s certainly been a busy week.

I have a feeling that lot’s more is to come. Squidoo, like everything else in life, has grown in fits and spurts over the last 20 months I’ve been a part of it. I really think that another tipping point is coming and that this fall we are going to see a significant number of new people coming to Squidoo to learn, give, and earn.

Not to be a grouchy Captain, but I have a feeling that if you didn’t get your Giant Squid application in by the end of September, you will be facing some stiff competition come the next round.

I’m already starting to see it show up in the daily rankings. There’s been a steady upward creep in the amount of traffic/sales/ratings it takes to get a lens up to a certain rank, much less stay there. I say that not because LR matters from a monetary standpoint (It really shouldn’t, there’s other money to be made) but just from an analysis of the data I have at my disposal.

What does this mean? There are going to be a lot of new tribes and communities popping up all over Squidoo. Find one you like and become a part of it. It’s amazing what happens when you work at something.. nearly always the effort put in reflects the reward taken out.

With these new Community actions Squidoo’s vets and HQ are doing everything they can to empower people to create something worth talking about.

It’s going to be an interesting fall :)

This post is right on target!

Well I am one of those new lensemasters, I am not sure if I am ever going to be a giant squid, but whatever. ARghhhH. I just wanted to thank you for the great blog and info, say the new redesign is pretty slick (you changed the theme didn’t you?) and, after browsing your archives add the lense in my topic for a review in case you still do them ;)
First comment, but not the last for sure =)

The $80,000 giveaway was a HUGE boon to Squidoo I’m sure. I’ve gotten over 50 e-mails already from supporters of one of the organizations wanting to know all about it and how they can get involved. Powerful, powerful word-of-mouth on this one.

An interesting fall, yes. And Squidoo gets more exciting every day! I remember that I signed up the first time I heard about it, but my computer was not into Web 2.0 at all. AT ALL. :D

I still enjoy making lenses. I missed the latest round to get my app. in for giant squid. :-( –I have 32 featured so far and I am sure I will have more by the next round. I do agree that the competition will be stiffer!
