I've seen one too many lensmasters do nothing but tweet their lenses being published or updated. That will get ya nowhere quick! Honestly, I couldn't make heads or tails of it til I just read the comments on it. As for a filter. If they could just filter out those who don't participate somehow, that'd be fab. The persons who continually add to and abuse the stream are clearly not participating in it. Or they would see what a nuisance they are. errgh...
