The Price of Failure
As some of you know, I’ve basically disappeared off the face of the Squidoo-verse for the last 4 months or so.
I was working on one of my most aggressive entrepreneurial projects ever.
It totally crashed and burned over the last few weeks.
Failing is something I do on a regular basis with various things, but I’m not going to lie, this one stung a bit. Besides the lost money (significant) and time (also significant) pulling out of a project like that definitely knocks your confidence and pride back a few notches.
Another unfortunate consequence is that I’ve also been neglecting my Squidoo happenings and adventures, which I can never get the time back for.
I’ll probably keep licking my wounds for the next few days or so and then I’m going to return to the basics that started making me money online in the first place, building some lenses.
Hopefully there are a few of you still around that check in every once in a while that I can share the adventure with
.
Failure sucks, but never failing once is way worse.
The only disaster in this situation would be me giving up trying. Which isn’t going to happen.

*hugs* Lick your wounds for a few days then pick yourself up, learn form your failure, and come up with something greater.

You were missed. And so sorry about your “opportunity.” Isn’t that what some people call a failure? It really is an opportunity, but it’s so hard to see in the midst of it all.

You know what they say.. “If you haven’t failed, then you must be doing something wrong.” Thanks for sharing that with us and I look forward to hearing about more of your adventures!

Sorry to hear this. At the same time, your spirit is right, get back to the basics and move forward. Without failures, it means we never tried and we never know if something could work. Still, am glad you’re back as I have missed reading your posts here.

Good for you Joe. Learning how to fail is one of the ways we learn how to succeed. Have missed your imput, and hopefully you can turn that failure into success later on.
Here is a leg up to get going again.

You have to keep trying in life even if failure causes the occasional setback.
Good luck on whatever you try!

Yep – Lick your wounds for a few days then pick yourself up. You’ve been in this, from the sounds of it, long enough to know that out of the ashes – comes the growth. While this may not have been the outcome you were expecting – you’ve no doubt got other irons in the fire that will benefit from what you’ve learned this go around.
You’re right – time can’t be gotten back – but sometimes the experience is worth the price.

Glad you’re back. I just found you & gave you a whole folder in my email all to yourself & then you were gone! Sorry about your project but you can do better next time.

Sorry to hear about your setback – but glad to see you again! Jump right back on that horse.

Great to hear back from you, I think all of the comments show that you still have some readers eagerly anticipating your advice!
Failure is just a learning experience that helps you get better at what you do.
Thanks for all of the tips over the years, they’ve been a huge help.

I’m glad you’re back and in my personal experience, I’ve learned the most from my own mistakes, no other lessons ever touched me quite as deeply…

Sorry to hear of your “failure”, but glad to have you back. I’m going to point some of my readers to this post. It seems some people are having an issue getting started because they may fail. I think your post may help them realize that even successful internet marketers fail sometimes, it’s part of the process. Quite frankly I feel like the only way you fail is by not taking action in the first place. I look forward to you hopefully continuing the series you started before you left.

Sorry for the bump in the road but glad to have you back. You give more encouragement than you realize and sharing your failure just makes you that much more “real” to us. Thank you. :0)
March 12th, 2010 at 11:36 am
I totally agree with the other posters who say not to worry about your “failure”. It is NOT a failure as long as you learn from it. This is written by somebody who has “failed” before, and is still trying. The sting of it may last awhile; but I think you have many old and new friends who are on your side.
I appreciate your help here and thank you for it!

Hi Captain,
Welcome back to Squidoo. You have been sorely missed. You have always been an inspiration and sharing your difficulties right now makes it even more so. You certainly will bounce back and we are all excited to see how that develops.
Hugs,
Evelyn

Failure always sucks, no getting around it. And the more you’ve invested in time and treasure — the suckier it feels.
Looking forward to your recover, and eager to see you back in the Squidoo world. Blessings to you!

Glad to have you back at the helm, Captain.
Don’t be discouraged by a failure. It can be a positive experience. Failure is, in a sense, the highway to success, in as much as every discovery of what is false leads us to seek earnestly after what is true and every fresh experience points out some form of error which we shall afterwards carefully avoid. John Keats (1795 – 1821)

welcome back on board captain, take the steering wheel.

Keep your head up – I’ve learned the biggest lessons of my life through failure…
March 13th, 2010 at 9:27 pm
Please don’t give up trying! Perseverance is really the key to making anything important happen in your life. Take some down time.. then get back on the horse. It sounds like you have a great attitude.

It takes courage to admit failure, and especially to publicly admit failure. Now the wounds can heal and your fans will be there to support you. I look forward to being a fan of yours. Namaste.

Hi Captain,
At the risk of sounding philosophical or even trite, this deemed failure has only brought you closer to success. Remember Edison’s words, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”
Now, you found at least one way that may not be a viable option. (Who knows … maybe it is and you’re closer than you think.)
In any event, you’re going in the right direction, judging from all your past accomplishments. I have confidence that you will learn from this latest venture, only to realize even greater success in the future.
Obviously, I wish you well in your future endeavors and only hope to follow your footsteps towards financial independence.
Best Regards,
Andy Lax

We’re here for ya, Capt! Just remember this was a battle, not the whole war. You’ll bounce back, we’re rooting for you.
Big Hugs!

This Online Life, huh? It happens. Failure, excuses, whatever. You have an excellent attitude! Squidoo is a nice comfortable place to return to. When I first learned of your challenge, I started my own – I figure mine will take me a bit longer but the rules are slightly different…
And I took a detour too – my challenge originally started last November (09) and I just began it anew today, March 15 2010. Stopping before giving myself a chance and not focusing is also a failure in my opinion, and like you I am also not giving up!

Hey Captain,
I did wonder where you went given that you started posting (afer your long previous holiday). sorry to hear about your latest opportunity – failure does suck but it takes a man to stand up and admit it.
Hope you benefit from this in the future and bounce back stronger.

It’s a real blow when you’ve got an idea that should work and having put in the time, effort and money it comes to nothing.
Been there myself and the best thing to do is take a deep breath and get back to what you know, at least for awhile, to get your spirits back up.
