Why Clickouts Rock your Payday
In the spirit of the payday inspired post here’s a little teaser image of my earnings in my main squidoo account since inception:
Now, every month payday invariably brings about discussion of Lensrank, that magical formula that helps determine how much your lens makes in a month.
Today, lets focus on one aspect of lensrank that is discussed some, but often not given the weight it deserves : clickouts.
I recently did an experiment and removed RSS feeds from about 40 of my lenses (Squidoo’s analytics do not as of the writing of this article track clickouts from RSS feeds in your stats) and replaced them with eBay modules (which do track clickouts).
the results were immediate and impressive. The clickouts that weren’t previously being captured are now being tracked properly.
And my lensrank SOARED on those lenses and has continued to stay very strong.
The moral of the story? Clickouts can make you more money, lots more.
So, make sure there’s stuff to click on on your lens.

Dang. I really like using the RSS feeds because they provide more information and just look better than the eBay module. Might try my own experiment here with a few lower ranking lenses.

Interesting Joe. I like the RSS feeds to bring in info and my own blogs. But I will try your experiment myself.

I find that to be true also the one lens that gets the most clickouts is also the one with the best lensrank.

I’m impressed by your payday total for the last few years. Wow!

Yikes! I have an RSS feed on most of my lenses. Then lately, I’ve placed twitter feeds. Hmm, I’ll have to redo some things.

How do you mean by stuff to click out? On Google ads etc. or on items you are trying to sell. I’m also impressed with your earnings having never made a sausage.

Interesting. I’ve been using RSS feeds also to pull in news, guess I’ll have to go back to my better trafficked lenses and swap some stuff out.
How have you been doing with widgets?

Awhile back, I heard we are not actually being paid on the ebay models anymore. I think I read it in a Squidoo forum a few month ago. Something to do with them changing their model from paying on sales to paying on clicks. It was confusing. But after reading that, I removed ebay modules and used more Amazon modules in their place.
Any clarification on this?
Thanks, Laurie
